Active Citizenship in an Urban Community: Race, Class, Power, and Politics (AS 131) - Students work 3 hours per week in a Chinatown nonprofit community organization while taking an American studies course focused on race, culture, power, and politics.
Citizenship and Public Service Scholars Program - a three-year leadership development program that works with a select group of sophomores, juniors and seniors. Scholars work to create positive change, engage University resources and build capacity in Tufts’ partner communities and beyond.
Community Music - offers Saturday classes throughout the school year for students ages 3-18 in addition to programs for adults. Community Music offers 4-6 free concerts for children on Saturdays. Tufts music students also serve as mentors for Somerville and Medford public schools.
Environmental Law (UEP/CEE 207) - Students are introduced to environmental law and the regulatory process. A significant portion of the course is a community research project focusing on the Mystic Watershed or another Tufts community concern.
The Fulcrum Institute- this program aims to prepare a group of Educators in Science who will implement and lead research-centered science learning and teaching in their schools and districts. Participants advance their professional knowledge and status through the Institute’s credit-bearing, three-graduate-course sequence which focus on investigations in physical science and the teaching of science in K-8 classrooms.
Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) - Representatives from the 33 varsity sports teams on campus meet monthly as a committee. The community service sub-committee helps organize activities to involve and serve the community.
Tisch Active Citizen Summer Fellows - Tisch ACS provides unique summer internship opportunities for Tufts students. These Tisch Fellows actively partake in building stronger communities and societies. ACS opportunities are available in: Somerville, Boston’s Chinatown, Washington DC, through the U.S. Conference of Mayors, and internationally.
Tisch Civic Engagement Fund (CEF) - financial and advisory support to individual students and student groups who engage in active citizenship work during the academic year. CEF encourages existing Tufts student groups and organizations to integrate active citizenship into their activities, while supporting community identified needs.
Tufts Community Research Center - works to foster and develop research collaborations between Tufts researchers and community-based organizations and individuals
Work-study: Community Service - to develop off campus community service work study jobs for all work study students (undergrad and graduate) with federal, state or local public or private non-profit agencies that are in the public interest. Students must receive federal work study funds to be eligible.
